We would like to welcome both groups to Early Start.  The children have settled in well and are making lots of friends. Now they can begin their learning journey !

Afternoon Group

Pencil Work

The boys and girls are working very hard in Early Start.  They are busy completing a pencil work sheet.  The children do many types of work sheets e.g. mazes and trails, matching, follow the dots and will move on to number sheets later in the year.  They are learning how to hold their pencil correctly and improving their fine motor skills.  Worksheets help the children's concentration skills and helps them focus so that their attention span can lengthen.  Worksheets are fun and the children enjoy colouring in the picture afterwards !

Circle Time

The children love coming to circle time.  We choose a different theme each week and we use various visual aids such as posters, charts,stories/ books and props to teach each theme.  Circle time helps children's listening skills, encourages language, helps children grow in confidence when speaking in front of their peers, turn taking and recall skills.  We choose a different helper each day and this is the highlight of the children's day ! We say our days of the week, count and say phrases in Irish. We sing songs and talk about the weather.  Mr Monkey gives stickers out to the children when they have been very good ! 

Painting

The children are painting their paper plates.  They will sprinkle glitter all over them and stick their photo in the center.  We will display them in the classroom.

Sticking Activities

Fruit Theme

The children got to experience seeing, feeling and tasting all types of fruits... Most of the children liked the fruit but we also gave them the option of just licking or tasting it and spitting it out into a tissue if they didn't like it.  This way all the children were not afraid to try the fruits. Yum yum !
